The iPad is the lazy teacher’s best friend. If you don’t want to work, if you aren’t worried about what the kids learn that day, if you just want to keep your troubled class quiet, and if you don’t come to class prepped, the iPad can be your new best friend. Don’t let that be you. In a world where the public is scrutinizing education’s every move you need to justify why every child needs a $600.00 machine in front of them.
If you are excited to get a class set of iPads so that you too can now have the trendy device, you are in it for the wrong reason. Be careful what you wish for. The machines can be a blessing and a curse. If not used with much forethought, your teaching and the student’s learning will suffer. The iPads are not babysitters for your kids and any teacher or aid that uses them as such should not be given this tool.
